Just Out’s MC Hursty Goes B2B MC Whizzkid At Rampant!

Posted by: Tristan Griffiths  //  Category: Review

Ronnie G Ronnie G looks here like he’s having a great time, and so he should after another successful Rampant event at Bliss Club Rooms in Southampton!! With a tidy little line up and some of the world’s finest Hardcore artists, including the World’s number one Scratchmaster, the head honcho behind the current world’s number one Hardcore Record label, Lethal Theory, and the world’s number one Hardcore MC.

Always A Great Night On The South Coast! It has also been said that the south coast ravers are number one, but we will leave that decision down to you the readers!

Either way the night went off with a bang, and got Southampton’s Bliss Club Roomss rocking to some of the UK’s finest hardcore beats and basslines. Coupled with outstanding lyrical flows, this is a recipe for the best of nights out!!

Unfortunately due to a double booking MC Whizzkid, was unable to do the two hours as originally planned, and as such MC Hursty was asked to step up to the mic to fulfil the lyrical duties for the legend and scratch-master extrordinaire, DJ Sy.

pompeys2

Stepping up and dropping some of his freshest lyrics, Russ Hurst becomes the one and only MC Hursty on the M.I.C. Having smashed it for half an hour, who should roll in ahead of time and join him on an outstanding back to back set with the scratch-master himself, but the world’s number one MC Whizzkid!

deekayWithout a thought Hursty agrees to go back to back with the Kid for the final half hour! What a set it was too, with a dancefloor full of ravers and a sound system booming, if you missed this you missed out!! Make sure you don’t miss the next Rampant event  on the 8th October – Featuring the Twista Records and Ultrabeat legend that is DJ Re-Con along side the Kid for yet another set to be experienced south coast style!!

deekay8

The world’s number one hardcore  record label owner, Joey Riot not only smashed up an awesome set as only he knows how, but he also took the time out to mingle with the ravers and have a chat to some eager fans!

A real genuine guy and exceptional DJ and producer, who is a real asset to the scene, I give you the one and only Mr Joey Riot!

Sy & SquiresSouth Coast Ravers

A big thank you to Peter AKA Pompey’s Rabbit & Darren King for the kind use of their photos.

Event Review : Global Gathering 2010 – 10 YEARS ON! Saturday

Posted by: Tristan Griffiths  //  Category: Events Covered, Festivals, Hard Dance, Review

gg_flyer 1 day down, a much brighter start to the second day, lots of sore heads and plenty more thumping beats to come, welcome to Saturday of Global Gathering 2010!

mainstage

Saturday for TGPromotions.com started with a dash down to Reading to pick up some additional camera gear, before arriving back on site at around lunchtime, to see numerous people starting to emerge from their tents looking slightly worse for wear!

We grabbed a few lucky.. or should that be unlucky campers to ask them live on film what they thought of the festival so far, including best and worst bits, and who they were here to see. Most met with a great response, and only a couple shied away from the camera. It was a great atmosphere in the campsites, despite the obvious hangovers, and the general mood was of excitement for the music ahead for the day!

dizzeeWith Dizzee Rascal headlining the main stage for Saturday, there were a lot of positive responses to this decision from the festival goers we spoke to in the morning, and the set itself went down just as well, if not better, than expected from all the excitement earlier in the day!

As is the norm for these mainstream artists, TGPromotions.com could be seen dashing into the Press Pit of the main stage alongside a host of other photographers for just 3 songs, where Tristan Griffiths grabbed a few shots of the days headline act before set off back across the field to cover the HTID & Random Concept Arenas for the rest of the evening.

Earlier in the afternoon TGPromotions.com had been talking to people entering the site for the first time as day ticket holders, to get their thoughts, and who they were there to see, all live on film.

kutski

Following that hour of documetary style filming we returned to the HTID arena, to cover BBC Radio 1‘s very own DJ Kutski, who is regularly heard playing 1-3am on Friday nights, bringing listeners the best in hardcore and hard dance and of course his own feature of the show :  The hardest record in the world right now! And his performance for HTID was no different!

Following Kutski‘s mix up of various harder styles of music, we saw what HTID like to call the “Kick Off Set” – Which today was the Head Honcho of Raverbaby and HTID, the one and only DJ Hixxy himself, alongside multi award winning Hardcore MC Storm! And what a set it was, with a full arena bouncing around to some of the finest UK Hardcore he had to offer, this certainly did set the arena up for the rest of the evening!

dnbAt the same time as HTID‘s kick off set, Next door in the Random Concept arena, they too had an awesome set playing, with Hazard alongside the legendary MCs Shabba D, and rising star of the scene, Harry Shotta!

Interestingly Harry Shotta has notably been featured on a Kool FM show where the full UNCZ line up were on back to back with Main Stage headliner Dizzee Rascal alongside D Double E.

So a real mix up of talent across all arenas, with more links than most people at the festival realised!

The Random Concept arena went on to bring the very best artists from today’s Drum ‘n’ Bass scene, ensuring a jam packed arena all night – At one point the arena was 50 deep OUTSIDE the entrances – So a massive well done Random Concept!!

sandajReturning to the HTID Arena to support TG Bookings artists, also representing their own label Broken Records, which they run alongside MC Whizzkid, the awesome B2B brother combo that is Stylus & AudioJunkie, we walked in to hear them playing slammer after slammer, all from their own studios, BIG UP guys, and keep up the great work!!

The rest of the line up in this arena was filled with the usual suspects seen at all the major Hardcore events, including artists both new and old! The line up really does read like a who’s who of the scene, as well as a hint on who are the next artists to watch for the coming years!

stylesBiggest selling solo Hardcore artist Darren Styles brought the arena some of the very best releases and unreleased new material from his own label Junkbox, getting the whole arena stomping and singing along!

Other notable and different sets included; the worlds number one Hardcore DJ Gammer with Welsh Number 1 & Hardcore Evolution‘s very own MC Wotsee; Uproar‘s MC Rude alongside the southcoast badboys from THC – Supreme & MOB!

forceIt was also great to see some older tastes catered for, with Force & Junior taking things back to the Old Skool for an hour. A real refreshing change for the main Hardcore arena! Great work HTID!

breezeAfter chants of “SE1, SE1..” after Static‘s earlier set in the day, I’m sure the crowd were extremely happy to see this combo together for a set with Breeze & Re-Con!

And as expected the world’s number one hardcore MC smashed up both his sets in true style, dropping some brand new lyrics, as well as getting the crowd involved with some of the older ones!

Stepping up firstly with masterminds who own and have creatively grown the unique Quosh brand, DJs Sy & Chris Unknown.

wk

Then again for the last set, also known as the Power Hour, alongside the world’s longest running hardcore DJ & Co-owner of Essential Platinum , DJ Dougal going back to back with Warped Science owner and one of  Raverbaby’s newest signings, as well as Breakthrough DJ of the year 2009 – Al Storm!

Dashing back during the Quosh set to the Random Concept Arena we managed to capture veteran DnB MC Skibadee alongside Bryan Gee.

Both arenas were absolutely rocking all night and not a single set let up on the pace and energy, a really well organised and well thought out set of line ups!

TGPromotions.com also went on a bit of a stickering mission, with the help of Leigh Creaser to help spread the word about Whizzkid‘s awesome clothing sponsors TerraTag.com

Event Review : Global Gathering 2010 – 10 YEARS ON! Friday

Posted by: Tristan Griffiths  //  Category: Events Covered, Festivals, Hard Dance, Review

gg_flyer

So.. 10 Years, 16 Stages, glorious sunshine, and thousands of festival goers having a great time, welcome to Global Gathering 2010!!

gg_crowd2

TGPromotions.com were glad we picked this years Global Gathering as our first experience of this event. With a diverse range of musical genres, and 16 stages to choose from, each featuring the very finest artists from around the world, weather was the only thing that seemed like it could put a damper on this event!

gg_weather

How wrong we were on that – Even with the showers experienced over the weekend, we only heard a few grumbles, and mostly from people worried about ruining their new trainers! For the most part the weather was outstanding!

With so much to see and do, we pitched our tent in the already busy VIP Camping, where the festival frivolities were already under way, before cracking on with capturing the whole thing in a series of professional snapshots.

gg_bananasFrom tents to marquees, sandals to flip-flops, jeans to fancy dress, is was clear that the general consensus was to do whatever made you feel good, so why not…. go bananas!!

Arguably the biggest dance festival in the UK, it’s great to see so many people, from so many backgrounds having such a great time together!

gg_chaseandstatus

As the arenas started getting busier, we headed over to take a look inside each of the main arenas, and caught some outstanding performances, but for me it was all about Chase & Status LIVE! WOW, what a performance, playing to thousands of people, their live performance was second to none, only complimented by the excellent work of the sound and lighting technicians!! There really is nothing like seeing thousands of people bouncing around to two of the Drum ‘n’ Bass scenes biggest commercial successes of the day!

Other notable performances, which reflected the ever changing face of the dance music scene, included a smaller outdoor arena hosted by Polysexual,  featuring some of the very best names in both Hard-House & Hardstyle. We found hundreds of clubbers stomping to some of the freshest tunes from both genres outside in the sunshine, with sets from numerous headline artists including the head honcho of Polysexual – Mark H, alongside the Tidy Boys, Alex Kidd, Andy Whitby, and all coming to a somewhat premature climax as the arena’s early close was hours before the other arenas, but played out in style by the one and only Lisa Lashes!

gg_lashesWith the early finish, and the crowd not wanting to leave after her set, Lisa was keen to take the time out to go and meet the dedicated Hard House heads who had stomped at the front all night, and some were even lucky enough to grab an autograph or picture with the The Worlds No1 Female DJ.

Rounding off our night, we finished off in the Spectrum arena, with another mind blowing set from the one and only Subfocus!! What a set up we found upon entering that tent, with a wall to wall crowd, and outstanding lighting display, this set had to be seen and heard to be believed! This really was DnB at it’s finest!

gg_subfocus_crowdHis passion for music really shone through on this set, and he certainly has come along way since his early days on guitar at school, when it was clear music ran through his veins! From the age of just 13 he taught  himself how to sample and produce tracks,  sat in front of an Acorn Electron computer. Now years on having studied acoustics at college, and making contact in 2003,  with Ram Records owner and legendary DJ Andy C, he can regularly be seen playing morning glory sets at such prestigious gigs as the legendary Global Gathering, amongst others!

Music News : Love Parade is no more, as 19 people die!

Posted by: Tristan Griffiths  //  Category: Festivals, Review

loveparade_logoThis weekend, as many of you were enjoying various events across the UK, we received the sad news that 19 people had been crushed to death, and more than 340 were injured, during a stampede at the infamous ‘Love Parade’  being held this year in the city of Duisburg, West Germany!

Early reports suggest that this town that normally houses just half a million people, saw an influx of over 1.5 million ravers arrive for the infamous festival, for which they had anticipated a maximum of 800,000.

“The Love Parade has always been a joyful and peaceful party, but in future would always be overshadowed by yesterday’s events,” , Rainer Schaller said.

“Out of respect for the victims, their families and friends, we are going to discontinue the event in the future, and that means the end of the Love Parade.”

With just one entrance and a reported ratio of 1 police officer per 1000 clubbers, panic broke out in a tunnel when the overcrowded festival site was closed for fear of just such a mishap.

It seems almost inconceivable something like this could happen here in Germany, where efficiency and planning are actually cutting edge – especially where police are concerned.  No matter what facts emerge in the upcoming investigation, the possibility of 700,000 people pushing at opposing ends of this tunnel simply had to be taken into account.

Eyewitnesses claim they tried to warn police before the stampede occurred that the tunnel was overcrowded, but said the authorities ignored their warnings.

‘You cannot jail one million people behind fences, you need to let them walk around FREE, then such things do not happen.’ – a witness told journalists.

The organizers had opened an additional stage adjacent to the main venue just to accommodate the rapidly growing numbers of festival attendees apparently. A tunnel connecting the two areas rapidly became a choke point, young people on one side or the other wanting to move to the other area.

A witness told by phone news channel N-TV how “some were already on the ground, others tried to climb the walls to enter the premises.” The masses of people “began to pass over those on the ground, ie a true mass panic.”

Chancellor Angela Merkel expressed solidarity night with the victims of the incident. It said “sad and shocked by the pain and suffering” of families. The federal president, Christian Wulff, in turn asked for clarification of “all” the causes and responsibilities of the “horrible catastrophe.”

Love Parade 2010 halted their live feed of the event in honor of those who died.

Sixteen of the dead had been identified, he added, and four of the victims were foreigners: one from the Netherlands, one from Australia, one from Italy and one China. They ranged in age from just over 20 to 40.

Mayor Adolf Sauerland said that a security plan for the festival had been worked out beforehand “which gave no reason to believe that there would be a problem”.

The head of a major police union, Rainer Wendt, told the Bild newspaper his organisation had warned a year ago that Duisburg was “too narrow, too small to manage the masses of people”.

A police chief told reporters that no-one had died inside the tunnel and that most of the revellers were killed at a ramp nearby.

In contrast to Love Parade 2010, the Woodstock Festival in 1969 saw 500,000 attendees, but only 3 deaths – 2 to drug overdose and one who was run over by a tractor. The first Love Parade was in 1989. Since then the event has been held sporadically, and the 2009 edition in Bochum was canceled for the very reasons that made Saturday’s turn deadly, the ability of town infrastructure to handle massive crowds.

So unfortunatley that is the end of Germany’s LOVE PARADE free Techno festival!

A very sad day indeed, for music worldwide – Our thoughts are with those families, and the emergency services who did such a fantastic job in the face of adversity!

So PLEASE look after yourselves, and each other when you go out, and watch for any potentially dangerous situations!
This news is the last thing people want to see from such a happy event!

PLEASE – RAVE SAFE!

Event Review: Totally Lost It – 23rd July 2010

Posted by: Tristan Griffiths  //  Category: Events Covered, Hard Dance, Review

tli_23july2010

So yesterday was my first time out at an event in Manchester, and this time around it was at Jay Prescott’s event, the aptly named  ’Totally Lost It’

Having heard a lot about this event before, I was curious to see what it was all about, and with a line up containing the likes of Scratch Masters : Sy & Storm, Notorious bad boy Marc Smith, Twista’s & Raverbaby’s very own DJ Squad-E, alongside a whole host of artists, this was set to be a great night!

Arriving around about midnight, giving the party the chance to well and truly warm up, I turned the corner into Sidney Street, to be welcomed by a whole assortment of friendly, brightly coloured ravers, who had stepped out for a breath of fresh smoke!

Using the Student Union’s premises, could only mean one thing – cheaper drinks, which I’m sure all the ravers appreciate as well! So far things were looking good!

2010_07_23-met-totallylostit_best3Getting a feel for the local buzz, I mingled outside for a while before entering the venue with Emcee Storm, just in time to catch the start of his set, which, as ever blew the roof off!! Scratching as only Sy & him know how, and dropping some of the most outstanding tracks and lyrical flows, this set really was something special!! The sound system required some attention to allow the ravers to get the full experience of such an outstanding set, but all in they certainly rocked Manchester!

Feeling the bass reverberating through the venue, with room two slamming some of the very best gabba tracks, it is no wonder they named this event Totally Lost  It as the ravers certainly are lost in a place of euphoric beats and melodies!

2010_07_23-met-totallylostit_best21

Next up to grace the decks and effects with some of the latest tracks in UK hardcore today, was phenomenal producer and Twista Record Label co-owner DJ Squad-E. Playing the style of beats infamous to both the Twista and Raverbaby labels, Squad-E looks so at home behind the decks.

Totally Lost It’s very own Jay Prescott, stepped up and kept the pace flowing as only the Manchester crew know how! Stomping to the beat and rocking to the bass!

The last set of the night was provided by the Notorious Marc Smith B2B Nigel The Notorious Meerkat!! Yes you heard me right, Marc Smith went B2B with a Meerkat!! Playing some of his cheekiest bootlegs, as well as some of the filthiest bass lines, this set was not far short of what we have come to expect from the mastermind behind the Notorious brand!

As well as headlining artists the main room was graced by some of the surrounding areas very own home-grown talent, including Totally Hardcore’s MC Gazy J, and MC Mitch to name just a couple!

So to sum up : Totally lost it is Manchester’s outstanding representation of the very finest Gabba & UK Hardcore, brought to you by the one and only Jay Prescott. Hosted inside the Student Union on Oxford Road, bringing you the best beats, bass lines and melodies, alongside some of the world’s best artists, home-grown talent and all that is topped off with fairly priced drinks! A sure fire success – so make sure you get down and check out
TOTALLY LOST IT!!
